MotoGP’s Samba Switch: Brazil kicks Argentina into the gravel from 2026

Dorna have announced today that MotoGP is ditching Argentina’s tango tears for a full-on samba shindig at Brazil that’s promising to deliver the wildest race party this side of the Rio Carnival – hopefully with a few less violent tourist robberies.

The race will be held at the Autódromo Internacional Ayrton Senna – which conforms to the strict Brazilian protocol that everything must be named after either Alain Prost’s best mate or the erectile dysfunctional Pele.

The Goiânia based circuit last saw GP action back in 1989 when the first round of mullets were dying out, Honda were actually decent and Mick Doohan didn’t have a limp.  However safety concerns, mainly involving paramilitary trained capybaras, meant the track needed a serious glow up before being allowed to host the best motorcycle racers in the world – along with Somkiat Chantra.

The only real fly in the feijoada of the Brazilian race is that March’s tropical rains might turn the track into a slip-n-slide causing chaos on track whilst having fat journalists off-track crying that’s it’s not fair that Marc Marquez is winning again.

The samba switch could also conveniently coincide with the hometown hero and Moto2 heartthrob Diogo Moreira being promoted to MotoGP.   A move to the premier class for Moreira would ensure a massive increase in attendance for the event and of course bags more cash for Liberty Media.

The upbeat carnival spirit and ample maraca shaking has not been shared by the locals over at Argentina’s Termas de Rio Hondo who have been left crying into their empanadas at the news.

“The MotoGP race has been great for the economy” sulked one Bargie. “We’d always get a great cash boost for the local hospitality sectors – and by that I mean the pickpockets who’d have a field day stealing wallets and the hotel staff who could help themselves to the safe belongings when cleaning out the rooms.”

The Brazilian race will be the second round of the 2026 season and be held on the 22nd March…unless it gets cancelled due to corruption.

What excuse should Bagnaia use for being beaten again in Brazil?
