MGPNews’ factual guide to Balaton Park

MotoGP will be returning to Hungary later this month for the first time since 1992 at the brand-new circuit – Balaton Park!

“I’m scared because I know nothing about this track” you say.  Well fear not as we at MGPNews.com have you covered with our top ten list of Balaton Park facts!

Completed in 2023 the Balaton Park circuit has been described as being “tight, annoying and unlikeable” – which coincidentally matches the description of a Scotsman who was found wandering in the paddock looking for oatmeal.

Earlier in the year the World Superbike Championship had a round at the new Hungarian circuit which gave us our first look at how motorcycle racing fairs.  And if that’s any indication then this could be a great MotoGP race to miss.

However most WSBK races are terrible now and we always have the Moto3 and Moto2 crashfests to look forward to.

The Ducati MotoGP riders have recently all tested the circuit on a track day.  The 2025 world champion Marc Marquez described the layout as being “unique and unusual” – which is the PR friendly way of saying “it’s a bit rubbish – especially for a new circuit”.

Pecco Bagnaia also probably said something about Balaton Park.  But nobody cares what he thinks anymore.

Like Marc Marquez’s favourite Sachsenring the Balaton Park track is also a tight and twisty anticlockwise circuit which will no doubt suit the stop-start-left-ram style of the Spanish Antichrist.

Despite this the Italian fans for some-reason have yet to start screaming and waving their hands around in the air claiming it’s another Dorna conspiracy to help Marc Marquez win.

But they will.  Currently the ones that haven’t hanged themselves are probably still laying in their mother’s bed weeping

All riders are being advised to have the Novaxxion 4b vaccine before attending the event that protects them against fat and paprika based viruses.

Most Hungarians own horses.  Back in the 1960’s the country was flooded with Trabant cars from their commie mates over in East Germany.  The Trabant was seen as the replacement for the horse and shared many similar qualities such as power, being difficult to maintain with a three-year life-expectancy.

However it was the fact that it couldn’t be eaten after it died of neglect and overuse which ultimately led to the Hungarians switching back to the trusty horse.

It’s also why Balaton Park has a stable that’s suspiciously close to the circuit’s catering area.

Hungary is littered with thermal baths that allow the locals to perve at young tourists whilst trying to complete their Rubik’s Cube.  However it’s these abundance of baths that cause the French to mainly dodge the country meaning that both Zarco and Quartararararo will probably have less supporters at this round.

The Hungarians are noted for being the most miserable nation in Europe – even including the French!  Expect the pessimistic locals to not turn up to watch the race instead choosing to complain madly about the price – only to then claim they’re the victims of Hitler when the event is cancelled due to poor ticket sales.
