There will be a big shake-up in MotoGP for 2027. New engine rules, new aero rules, new tyres. But one of the new rules that is being mooted would seem to guarantee that the 2027 World Title will be won by Valentino Rossi’s half brother Luca Marini. Let’s investigate!
Tell us about Luca Marini.
The noodle-armed Italian is half brother from the same mother to MotoGP’s Goatest Of All Time Valentino Rossi. Compared to his more famous brother, Marini lacks talent, charisma, campness and popularity. However, he does have his good features.
Such as?
He never falls off the bike, except for that big crash testing at Suzuka. Which is ironic, because World Endurance is pretty much the level of his riding ability.
Plus, he’s great at explaining stuff to bird-brained loudmouths. Which makes him hugely popular with MotoGP journalists for some reason. Unfortunately, that whole “explaining not-that-complicated concepts to idiots” thing is largely worthless in a MotoGP rider. At this level, riders don’t even need the ability to explain which planet they’re standing on, as Frankie Morbidelli demonstrates in most of his interviews.

But never falling off isn’t much of an advantage, is it? The likes of Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin have won MotoGP World Titles whilst very rarely staying on the bike!
Ah, but a new rule that’s being discussed for the 2027 season would change all of this! The Single Bike Rule!
Eh?
Instead of having 2 bikes available for each rider, MotoGP is talking about stealing the single bike rule from World Supers. Everyone would only have 1 bike available at a time. The team can have one spare bike per rider sitting in the truck, but you can only have it scrutineered and race it if you’ve completely trashed your first bike. And then you’re locked in to using the spare bike for the weekend, you’re not allowed to repair the old one.

How does this help Marini?
He never falls off his bike, so he never trashes it and never has to change bikes anyway. Everyone else constantly crashes and has to swap between bikes all the time! They’ll all be totally screwed!!!
Except Marini?
Exactly! The spaghetti-skeletoned Italian will probably be the only rider to even start some races, because everyone else will have destroyed both their main and emergency backup bikes by Saturday afternoon. Hell, Jorge Martin usually destroys both of his bikes by the end of FP1.
Will Marini even be in MotoGP next year, now that HRC have given him and his supposedly amazing bike development skills the old heave-ho?
Almost certainly. Instead of hiring the sensible choice of Nicolo “There can be only one” Bulega, VR46 will make the nepo-tastic choice of hiring the team owner’s brother.

Conclusion
2027 could be Luca Marini’s best chance of winning the MotoGP World Championship. Or even winning his first MotoGP race, for that matter. He should seize the opportunity with both hands, if only just to annoy mono-armed Marc Marquez.
